The Recycle your Bicycle program will run from April 8 to April 30 at the Bolingbrook nature center.
BOLINGBROOK, IL — If you’re looking for a place to donate unwanted bikes or bike parts, you can do so at Hidden Oaks Nature Center in Bolingbrook. The nature center will serve as a collection site from April 8 through April 30 as part of the Forest Preserve District of Will County’s Recycle your Bicycle program, according to a news release.
Bikes can be dropped off at Hidden Oaks from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and noon to 4 p.m. Sundays.
Donated bikes and bike parts can be in any condition, from brand new to beyond repair, according to the preserve.
All donated bikes and bike parts are given to Chicago-based Working Bikes, which refurbishes and distributes them locally and globally to those in need of an affordable and sustainable mode of transportation for work, school, community services, recreation and more, the preserve said.
Once the Recycle Your Bicycle program ends on April 30, Working Bikes will come with trucks to pick up the donated bicycles and bike parts. The Forest Preserve has been collecting bikes for recycling/reuse since 2011.
