One of UK’s best award-winning sandy beaches is just a few hours away from Leicester

It’s famous for its Corsican pine trees, sand dunes and beach huts

While Leicestershire people don’t have a beach on our doorstep, one of the most beautiful in all of the UK is just a drive away in Norfolk. Wells-next-the-Sea is a stunning coastal town with an award-winning beach just down the road.

Leicestershire is well placed to take advantage of good road links to Norfolk, with it taking under two and a half hours to reach Wells-next-the-Sea from Leicester city centre. Wells is a gorgeous Norfolk seaside town which sits in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The town’s large sandy beach stretches for miles and is bordered by trees, while the town centre is a bustling hub of activity full of places to eat and drink. Wells is also near Holkham Hall, an 18th-century Palladian mansion which offers boating, cycle hire, a museum, deer park and gardens.

Wells-next-the-Sea beach

The award-winning beach at Wells is vast, unspoilt and beautiful, famous for its Corsican pine trees, sand dunes and beach huts. You can walk for hours along the golden sands and if you’re looking for a longer trek, you can get to picturesque Holkham by walking 4.5 miles.

Dogs are allowed on the sand all year round and sunsets viewed from the beach are legendary. Wells’ beach is consistently rated as one of the best in Britain and deserves it reputation as a play to unwind.

From April to October, there is also the Wells Beach Bus, which can take you to and from the dunes to Wells.

Wells town and quay

Wells is a bustling small town which boasts great places to eat and drink, with a thriving shopping scene. According to Wells Guide: “At the very heart of Wells lies the Quay – the town’s centre of gravity and focus of activity. To the north lie the salt marshes and harbour, the beach and sea. To the south, the homes and businesses of Wells.”

It’s here you can find shops, amusements and the fishing and pleasure boats which are popular with day trippers. Wells Guide says: “Its the life and soul of Wells.”
