You’ve probably never heard of this charming seaside town
Located on the south east coast of England is a little seaside resort called St Leonards-On-Sea. Part of the borough of Hastings in East Sussex, it takes around 80 minutes to get to by car from Lingfield in west Surrey.
This spring, it was named among the UK’s best places to live by the Muddy Stilettos’ guide for its boutique shops, excellent dining options and chic vibe. It’s not the most well-known coastal town, but it has everything you could want including seafront restaurants and cafes, independent shops and a lovely promenade where you can walk beside the shingle beach.
Here you will find parking, toilets and an ice cream van – perfect for a day trip. As well as the beach, St Leonards-On-Sea (or Lennies to locals) is great for walkers.
Warrior Square Gardens, Combe Valley Countryside Park and Grosvenor Gardens are some of the outdoor spots to explore, while the town’s antique shops are a must-visit if you go there. According to Tripadvisor, visiting Teddy Tinkers in London Road is the most popular thing to do in the town.
Sandwiched between Hastings and Bexhill, Hastings is the biggest neighbourhood of the three, offering more beach opportunities as well as a chance to visit the iconic Hastings Castle which has brilliant views over East Sussex. Visitors can step back in time and discover the fascinating history of Britain’s first Norman castle built by William the Conqueror in 1067.
There are a number of good-rated primary and secondary schools in St. Leonards-On-Sea, and trains travel direct to Brighton in 30 minutes and London Victoria in 110 minutes. According to property website Rightmove, homes in St. Leonards-On-Sea had an overall average price of £331,008 over the last year.
The majority of sales during this time were flats, selling for an average price of £209,412. Terraced properties sold for an average of £342,475, with detached properties fetching £503,126. This compares to Surrey, where the average house sold for £643,183 – more than £300k more expensive.
