A young girl has died after an incident at a popular holiday beach in south Victoria.
Police have confirmed the girl, 12, died after an incident that took place about 6pm on Tuesday at Collendina on the Bellarine Peninsula.
It’s believed two 12-year-old girls were swimming in water when they got into difficulty.
A passer-by entered the water and was able to rescue one of the girls and bring her to shore.
A police airwing assisted in returning the second girl to shore, where CPR was performed.
Unfortunately, she died at the scene.
The incident is not being treated as suspicious.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
The incident has taken place during a peak period for the holiday destination as Victorians take time away over the spring school holiday period.
