Bear Season in Game Zone 4 Will Close Early Due to the Harvest Quota Being Reached

The 2023 season for bear in Game Zone 4 will close one hour after official sunset on October 22, 2023. It is legal to continue hunting in Game Zone 4 until the closure time listed in this advisory. Any bears harvested prior to the closure must still be reported. The harvest reporting system will remain open through October 30, 2022, as other bear hunting zones in the state are available for hunting.

This early season closure only impacts the bear season in Game Zone 4, which includes private land in Florence, Georgetown, Horry, Marion and Williamsburg counties, as well as the following WMAs: Cartwheel Bay Heritage Preserve WMA, Lewis Ocean Bay Heritage Preserve WMA, Little Pee Dee River Heritage Preserve Complex, Waccamaw River Heritage Preserve WMA, and Wee Tee WMA.

Anyone bear hunting in Florence, Georgetown, Horry, Marion, or Williamsburg counties or in the above listed WMAs after the official closure time as stated in this advisory on October 22, 2023 may be charged with hunting bears during a closed season.

Bear season in Game Zone 1 remains open until October 30. The harvest quota in Game Zone 2 has not been reached and it remains open as well.
