Construction is set to begin next year for the first new full-service hotel in Long Beach in more than 30 years, developer Steinhauer Properties announced this week.
In Summer 2024, Bellevue-based Steinhauer intends to break ground on the Hard Rock Hotel Long Beach at 100 N. Ocean Boulevard. The project, which would also be the first Hard Rock-branded hotel in Southern California in nearly one decade, calls for the construction of a 31-sotry building featuring roughly 427 guest rooms and suites.
“We’re grateful to Mayor Rex Richardson, the City Council and our partners for welcoming Hard Rock’s unique brand of hospitality and entertainment to the City of Long Beach,” said Hard Rock International chief operating officer Jon Lucas in a news release.
The hotel would incorporate what is billed as the tallest open rooftop bar on the Southern California coast, overlooking the Port of Long Beach and other nearby tourist attractions such as Alamitos Beach, Shoreline Village, Long Beach Cruise Terminal, and the Aquarium of the Pacific. Plans also call for an outdoor swimming pool, a fitness studio, two restaurants, and other Hard Rock-branded offerings.
Completion of the hotel is expected by Summer 2027.
GBD Architects designs for the hotel, approved in 2021, would make the Hard Rock hotel the second tallest tower in Long Beach at just over 402 feet in height. The project, as reported by Longbeachize, is also required to restore access to the historic Jergins Tunnel, which has set below Ocean Boulevard since the 1920s.
The hotel would be the latest in several big changes to the built environment along Ocean Boulevard, which has recently seen the restoration of the historic Ocean Center Building across the street as housing, and plans to build a 21-story apartment tower at 615 Ocean.
