Folly Beach officials report fatality in house fire

FOLLY BEACH, S.C. (WCSC) – The Folly Beach Department of Public Safety is investigating after a man died following a fire Friday evening.

Sergeant Zach Halpern said crews responded at 7:42 p.m. Friday to a home on the 100 block of East Ashley Avenue after receiving reports of smoke coming from the attic.

Upon arrival, firefighters forced entry into the home and were able to quickly put out the fire. Once it was extinguished, they located the victim in a front bedroom and pulled him out of the house.

Firefighters and EMS attempted life-saving measures at the scene. The victim was taken to MUSC where hospital staff pronounced him dead.

The Charleston County Coroner’s Office has not yet identified the victim.

The cause of the fire has been labeled as undetermined at this time.
