With the school holidays just around the corner and the weather set to warm up once more, many will be looking for way to spend some time outside this summer.

A perfect place to visit is Loch Morlich, near Aviemore. The spot is actually Scotland’s only award-winning fresh water beach, located at the foot of the Cairngorms.

The loch is right in the heart of the National Park, so there is lots to see and lots to do during your visit.

Emerging from the ancient Caledonian Pine forests, you will arrive at the stunning sight. With golden sand and clear waters, the beach is really something to see.

The stunning sandy banks at the end of the Loch provides the perfect place to set up for a picnic or simply enjoy the Scottish sun. If you are looking for something a little more active, the loch has lots of options.

Home to a waters ports centra and yacht club, you can enjoy a wide range of activities in and around the water – from canoeing to paddle-boarding.

If something a little more peaceful is what you are after, there are plenty of spectacular views to take in, including the snow-clad peaks of the northern Cairngorms and Ben Macdui. So why not enjoy a loch side walk as your take in the beauty of Scotland!

To reach the beach, according to the Forestry and Land Scotland website, you should following the signs of ‘The Cairngorms’ for 6 miles, before staying on the main road passing the first car park at Loch Morlich and continuing to the far end of the loch. A sign for ‘Loch Morlich Watersports’ marks the entrance to Loch Morlich Beach.
